Social Media allows one to engage people on a more personal level. If done correctly you can show who and what is behind your company and gives users an opportunity to connect with your business on a personal level. There are countless ways for companies to engage with users dependent upon the industry that they are in, but the most important thing remains establishing a connection with the user.

One thing that we make sure we drive home with our clients, is that they need to realize that it takes work to build a connection, but if you can, than it can be more valuable to your business than many other forms of advertising. If you think that you can sit back and put up a facebook page, and “tweet” your latest blog posts, and you will reap huge benefits you are mistaken. However the more you offer real value to people, the more they will respond to you network. Like anything else it is a give and take relationship that you are building.

We are presenting on social media (and about some fundamental geo-development) at the upcoming GeoDomain Conference in San Diego next week regarding how we use it to build a following on our site Lahaina.com. I will post some of the highlights following the conference, and give some example of creative ways to increase your ROI. For now enjoy the article and video below:

This is a widely used example of how a small Korean Taco Truck Company in LA used Twitter to boost their ROI:
